Paying for care

Talking about money can feel uncomfortable, especially when you're worried about someone you love. We'll be straightforward and kind about it, and we'll answer every question you have before care begins.

How families pay

There are two ways families pay for our care.

Private pay

Most families pay privately, out of pocket. Sometimes it's your loved one's own savings, and sometimes several family members share the cost.

Long-term care insurance

If your loved one has a long-term care insurance policy, it may help pay for care at home. We work with long-term care insurance and can help with the paperwork.

What we don't accept

We don't accept Medicare or Medicaid. They generally don't cover non-medical, everyday help at home like ours, so we work only with private pay and long-term care insurance. If you have questions about this, we're always glad to explain.

Long-term care insurance

We work with long-term care insurance and can help with the paperwork your policy requires.

Every policy is a little different. If you can gather a few things before we talk, we can help you understand what your policy asks for and what to do next.

What to have ready

  • The policy number, and the name of the insurance company.
  • The phone number for the company's claims department, usually on the policy or the insurance card.
  • The elimination period. This is a waiting period at the start of care before the policy begins to pay. Your policy will say how long it is.
  • What the policy says about care at home, since some policies cover home care and some cover only a facility.
  • Any forms the insurance company has already sent you.

What affects the cost

Every family's situation is different, so the cost depends on the care your loved one needs.

  • How many hours of care each visit, starting from our 4-hour minimum.
  • How many days a week you'd like help.
  • Whether care is during the day, overnight, or around the clock.
  • The kind of help involved, which we'll talk through together.

Let's talk it through.

The easiest way to understand costs is to talk with us. We'll listen to what your loved one needs, walk you through the costs plainly, and answer any questions, with no pressure to decide anything.
